STAFF ARCHAEOLOGIST/GIS TECHNICIAN
Locations: San Luis Obispo, Fresno
Applied EarthWorks, Inc. has immediate openings for Staff Archaeologist/GIS Technician in our San Luis Obispo and Fresno offices.
The successful candidate will work on cultural resources projects throughout California [SLO office focuses on the Central Coast of California (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties) while Fresno office services the Central Valley and Northern California.] Archaeological tasks will include participation in field survey, testing and data recovery projects; construction monitoring; and technical report production. GIS work will include management of GIS and GPS data; creation and maintenance of project specific geodatabases and shapefiles; georeferencing; and production of report quality maps.
Archaeology fieldwork and GIS;
Certification or demonstrable skills with ArcGIS;
Conducting records searches;
Basic technical writing and report preparation;
Ability to collect field data using a Trimble Geo X7 or other GPS devices;
Ability to work cooperatively with construction contractors, tribal monitors, and other project stakeholders;
Basic understanding of CRM laws and regulations; and
Strong work ethic and good communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field. Experience in CRM and GIS skills required. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification and California experience preferred.
