LABORATORY PROGRAM MANAGER

Location: Any Office with a Lab

Applied EarthWorks, Inc. (Æ) has an immediate opening a Laboratory Program Manager in any AE office with some flexibility for a hybrid schedule. Note: Depending on business needs, this role may be in addition to Senior or Principal Archaeologist or Senior or Principal Paleontologist, or as a full-time position on its own.

Pay Range:

Lab Program Manager $76,960,00 - $104,000 annually

Duties:

The Laboratory Program Manager oversees the Æ Laboratory program company-wide including business development as well as program processes and delivery. The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating Laboratory services across all lines of business: pre-contact/historic archaeology and mitigation paleontology. The Program Manager ensures alignment of laboratory services with compliance requirements and industrywide resource management best practices.

The Program Manager directs continuous improvement of laboratory processes workflows and standards. This requires coordination across company executives, principals, other program managers, project managers, authors, technical specialists, and lab staff to facilitate accurate, comprehensive, and efficient laboratory processes and documentation. Additionally, the Program Manager develops Laboratory-based service offerings for archaeology and paleontology, including, but not limited to, repatriation services support, NAGPRA compliance, collections management, and new technical offerings.

Skill Requirements:

  • Process-oriented with superior project management and organizational skills;  

  • Capable of “big picture” thinking with ability to anticipate and prioritize tasks for multiple concurrent projects;

  • Proven capability to direct laboratory personnel during the tracking, processing, analysis, treatment, and curation of archaeological and/or paleontological collections;

  • Excellent ability to manage schedules and budgets for archival/collections programs;

  • Successful history managing diverse teams including technical analysts (in-house/consultant);

  • Excellent understanding of statistical, sampling, and other quantitative methods;

  • Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders to assure regulatory compliance and ensure quality control in collections, laboratory, and asset management;

  • Exceptional understanding of relevant federal and California laws and regulations;

  • Experience in procurement of grants or funding for collections management projects;

  • Commitment to excellence in client service and technical quality; and

  • Exceptional work ethic and communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, museum, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years full-time-equivalent of progressively responsible experience managing CRM and/or mitigation paleontology projects laboratory operations.

  • Microsoft Access and database management expertise required.

  • Prior Program Management experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated technical specialty (e.g., lithics, ethnobotany, zooarchaeological remains, historical artifacts, paleontological resources) desired.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and implementing research designs including sub-sampling and data normalization

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role.

  • Experience designing and implementing public outreach involving exhibits and public education related to archaeology, paleontology, cultural heritage, or natural history desired.

  • California experience preferred; other states may also be beneficial.

  • Must be a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) and/or Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualified as a Principal Investigator. Paleontology candidates should be active members of appropriate professional organizations.

An employee in this CA-based position can expect a salary of $76,960,00 - $104,000/year for the Lab Program Manager position.
